After a five-year rejuvenation, the classic Cathay Cinema will be making a return to its historic site in Handy Road. On March 24 2006, Cathay Cineplexes will be launching The Cathay Cineplex to continue its cinematic legacy. The flagship, to be located over the fifth and sixth floors of Cathay Organisation’s The Cathay, comprises of eight halls that include The Grand Cathay and The Picturehouse. To mark this momentous day, Cathay Cineplexes will be giving away 10,000 free all-day movie passes to the public.
Appealing to a more matured and sophisticated audience than that of Cathay Cineplex Orchard, The Cathay Cineplex goes above and beyond meeting the needs and expectations of patrons who have an appreciation for the finer things in life as is reflected by the décor, amenities and alternative programming available, such as the hosting of gala premieres at The Grand Cathay and Live telecasts of World Cup 2006.
Moviegoers at The Cathay Cineplex can indulge in a full sensory treat that is a mélange of the contemporary and nostalgic. Equipped with cutting-edge technology to enhance the movie-going experience, films will be presented in Digital Cinema, THX or Dolby Digital Surround E.X DTS technology in all auditoriums that come furnished with ergonomically designed Quinette Gallay seats or Poltrona Frau’s Oscar chairs.
Contrasting the modern, The Cathay Cineplex has incorporated nostalgic touches with a gallery showcasing the cinema’s history, and two cineshops selling movie memorabilia of yesteryear. The beloved kachang puteh man will also be there, offering peckish patrons kachang wrapped in paper, the way our parents knew it back at the old Cathay.
With an exclusive showcase of films and the widest selection of showtimes, The Cathay Cineplex also offers a unique range of services, such as alternate methods of purchasing a ticket (the most unique of which will be via a cross-selling link-up with Cathay Cineplex Orchard, a first in Singapore), 24-hour movies (on Fridays, Saturdays and eve of public holidays), popcorn caddy services and personal F&B delivery, to ensure a heightened movie-going experience for one and all.
