Digi customers clock 72 hours non-stop movie marathon!
Kuala Lumpur, 31 JULY 2006 - At 11:15am, eight DiGi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd ("DiGi") customers set a new world record for the longest movie marathon.
These plucky contestants watched 33 consecutive movies over 72 hours and 12 minutes, beating the previous known world record of 70 hours and 33 minutes set by four Norwegians in November 2005.
The eight DiGi customers share this new world record, which is sanctioned by the Malaysian Book of Records.
One hundred seventy six DiGi customers entered the Cathay Cineplex Damansara outlet at Cineleisure Damansara early on Friday, July 28 to participate in the DiGi presents Cathay Ultimate Movie Marathon. Their goal was to set a new world record for consecutive movie viewing without sleep, while vying for a cash prize of RM10,000.
In addition to setting the world record, K. Shri Hymavathee took home the RM10,000 purse after winning a knockout quiz which determined the grand prize winner. "I can't believe it. This was a great contest and I'm glad DiGi made this possible for its customers, but I'm really looking forward to some good sleep now that it's over," she exclaimed.
Taking home Cathay VIP movie passes were Jasraj Singh Sandhu and Asnie bt Jumin in 2nd and 3rd respectively. The passes entitle them to a year of unlimited movies at all Cathay Cineplexes in Malaysia and Singapore. Each of the final eight contestants took home RM300 worth of DiGi reload coupons as well.
The movies screened range from English, Chinese, Malay, Japanese, Indonesian, French, Arabic and Korean, spanning a wide variety of genres. The contest was held exclusively for DiGi customers and was aimed at giving each a chance to experience and participate in a fun event of both national and global significance.
